The Legend of Elsie
Tom sits, pen poised over the page in his new little black notebook. There are several paragraphs written, then crossed out. He pushes the dining chair away from the kitchen table in his short-term rental apartment. "My story has no life in it, and I don't know what to do with it," he thinks, running his hands through his thinning hair. Adam gave me his winning lottery ticket so I could finish this book. I have no more excuses, maybe I've just been deluding myself that all I needed was time and money —"

My Quarantine Project
Preface I wanted to enter this writing challenge on photo editing, but felt I had nothing to contribute. I am 48 years old, and I sure tried to keep up with technology at first. It has changed so quickly over the decades, though, at some point I simply gave up trying — probably somewhere around Mac OS 9.

My Experience Writing for My First Vocal Challenge
This whole Moleskine Little Black Book Challenge has been such a trip! As of this writing I have 7 entries accepted, and 2 more pending (including this one), with 2 days left. I would never have believed you a month ago if you'd told me I'd have 9 entries into this challenge!

Adam Helps, and Heals
It has been 4 months since Adam won $20,000 in the writing contest. He immediately gave it away. He’s delighted by the idea of funding dreams, and has started “Community Camaraderie Cures” (CCC) to funnel money through. It was his dad’s idea to make it a non-profit, and the family attorney set it up.

Adam Tries to Help
Adam flips the business card over, and dials. He wants to find a way to fund this man’s dreams. Adam has been writing a short story where Camilo is the main character, but he is also someone Adam met in real life — at an event where Camilo was building a cob oven in a mutual friend’s backyard. The phone rings and rings, but there’s no answer. Adam doesn’t leave a message, not knowing what to say.

Adam's Magic Notebook
Adam wakes from a very strange dream with another hangover. Pulling soft blankets around him, rolling himself into a protective burrito, he buries his face remembering how much he drank last night. "Drink some water, you dehydrated cucumber" — the meme flashes through his head. He wants to obey, but that means getting up, and he doesn't want to do that. He doesn't want to do anything, if he's being honest.

Bea Weaves a Healing Dream
Bea had a full client intake with her herbalist friend Nicholas last week, 3 hours on the phone with her complicated medical history. She still owes him photos of her nails and tongue, but she pulled her back out, again, and has been heavily medicating. Three cheers for ganja tinctures.

My First 30 Days With Vocal+
I was just sitting here, editing my third entry into the Moleskine Little Black Notebook Challenge (see also: my first and second entries!), when I got distracted and checked my current stats. My earnings from reads has been sitting at nearly $2 for so long I was stunned for a moment to see a nice round $2! Like when I'm about to turn a milestone on my odometer and when I think to look down all round numbers are looking back at me! It was like that. I get really excited about my stats on here, even if they aren't objectively impressive yet.

Bookshop After Hours
Adam moves silently through the aisles of the bookshop, avoiding the squeaky floor plank next to the stairs. The shop is closed. Safety lights cast shadows onto the corner of the reading nook and the elevated platform, spilling texture on the plush carpet and upholstered club chairs. He takes the stairs two at a time, muscles strong from years of rock climbing — reaching the top landing in a single breath. Agatha, the resident ghost, floats behind the reference desk a few feet away.
