My deep features, all the way down to my 4C hair,

I stand strong and come ready to prepare,

Myself for the good and bad,

All the things that make me glad, to be black.

We been runnin away from sterotypes and heartache,

from they took us from our home,

forced us to get use to a culture we did not know,

And the price to pay was your life...

I can’t fight the frustration I feel deep within,

when I see my beautiful melanin,

Sisters, tryna westernise themselves, loose your culture.

Those who are lost seem to feel like they belong,

Without realising that they’re a joke.

Oh, did I provoke something deep inside,

why you bleachin your skin sis?

why you weave your hair?

You dont wanna get wit your own,

out of fear that your child will be an image of you,

I mean your child will come out dark to.

Who said darkness, darkskin , was a sin?

when the posters say otherwise.

how much have we gotta big you up for you to realise

they can’t stare into ur eyes

deep and engaging like the black night sky.

You are beautiful, but you always hear that,

even when they’re complimenting you,

our own do it…

“Your pretty for a dark-skinned woman” says my sis

And i feel an anger burn in me.

What do you see when you look in the mirror?

AS A BLACK WOMAN!!

AS A SPIRITUAL, INTELLECTUAL, BLESSED, BEING.

Why have you stooped sooo low, that you cant see the

beauty and strength that resonate inside of you?

I bite down and try not to cry,

staring deep into her eyes and seeing her lost hurt soul

seeing the years of abuse,

have you believing that you are not as beautiful?

Look at your deep features,

your melanin rich skin, your knotty hair, your straight hair,

we are a strong shade. chocolate rainbow. None of us are the same.

But we are, so why are certain shades in each shade celebrated.

STOP. And love yourself, you literally deserve it,

What kinda example you setting for yourself, your siblings,

even if family cannot find it in themselves to love you.

You find it in you to love you!!!!

We are humans, not all of us are strong enough,

dont seek validation in a soul which is more lost than you.

You, your jet black skin, blue in color, your beautiful,

You, your caramel, gold, skin, your beautiful…

We, melanin is something to be proud about.

Whenever your in doubt, just look at your skin

remember all what you been through, look at where you are nw,

Lift your head from that constant bow.

Your ancestors been through to much pain.

For you to still keep this negative image of yourself.

In your brain...
