The Love of a Flame

The Poem of a Broken Girl

In the end

Loving you was the best mistake

A girl like me could've ever made

I was tame like a cat who sat on your lap

And purred away the night with no scratches

Made and no bloodshed

You on the other hand

You were as wild as an unwatched flame

Going wherever the wind carried you

Spreading the terror of your unmatched heat

With no thought of the consequences

And with that spreading flame

You lit me on fire with your love

Burning me at every touch and

Even though it hurt

I was blinded to the pain

Because of the love I felt beneath

Or maybe it wasn’t love

Maybe it was lust

Maybe it was tolerance

Maybe it was annoyance

Maybe it was you getting tired

Maybe it was you smothering me

Taking away my oxygen

Putting out my flame

The flame you ignited in me

Now, I’m as low and burnt up as an old candle

My wicks have gone, the wax has been burned

There is nothing left of me to make a nice smell

Or a bright flame

You did this to me

You put out my light

And I can see it now

Your smug grin

The twinkle in your eye

You know you’ve broken me

And you do not care

For now you have something new

A new flame to ignite

A new fire to put out

A new girl to smother the life out of

It’s murder my dear

Of the worst kind

A broken heart
