Song of the Sirens

Eternal Sleep

Sleep beckons me as the sirens of old drew in their prey; their voices beguiling each man to become their slave.

Freewill ceased to exist once the first cord was heard; what draws me to sleep as if I'm a sailor can be seen as absurd.

Is it the harmonious melody?

The promise of peace given readily?

Or perhaps the hope of something greater than the pains of this mortal life?

Desiring freedom from hopelessness, each sailor acquiesced to the sirens song of the afterlife.

Sleep offers much the same; an escape from all my pain. From life failing me again.

This world has only made my spirit lame; please let me close my eyes and give in to the call of eternal sleep.

About the Creator

Elizabeth Adolphi

As a child I had a flair for the dramatic; as an adult, the flair has turned into a subtle, yet continuous hum. I love to see the world through different scopes and to tell stories based on the takeaway. Cheers!
