An Animal Poem

A Large Animal

It started with the elephant coming to stay; and then, I got carried away.

One fine day in the month of May,

An elephant came to stay,

Who clipped his toes and blew his nose

And bellowed wherever he lay.

In mid of June, by light of the moon,

A buffalo happened by,

Who shed his hair all over the chair;

And there he continues to lie.

In bright July, with the beautiful sky,

A hippo showed up at the door;

And hearing the din, he let himself in

And staked out a piece of the floor.

Then August blew in on a gust,

And a rhino came through the gate;

And seeing how they had seen fit to stay,

He promptly invited his mate.

Ah, the ember in September

Attracted a grizzly bear,

Who, like a bug, curled up on the rug,

And he snores, as he hibernates there.

It was over by end of October,

With arrival of the gnu.

I packed my load and hit the road,

And I’ll find me a spot at the zoo;

Oh, there are lots of spots at the zoo!
