Kiss Your Scars Goodnight
This poem is about healing past wounds and moving on.
Kiss your scars goodnight.
Tuck them into bed.
Lay them down peacefully.
Let the skin scab over.
Don't pick the wound.
I don't go to sleep to dream.
I don't go to sleep at all.
Insomniacs can't close their eyes.
They can't turn the imagines in their mind off.
It's a constant picture show flickering on the boxcars of a train that is somehow in perfect sync with the images.
It's like watching an old-time movie without any sound.
The 3 AM train of consciousness.
It's like looking through a childhood picture album of someone's family.
Someone else's nightmares.
Only to see you aren't as different as you once thought that you were.
It's a new understanding.
It's a new outlook on life and growth as a person.
It's learning to heal yourself and move on.
I am trapped on a plain that only exists in my own mind.
I kiss my scars goodnight.
I embrace healing.
I need sleep.
I need space.
I need time to reflect.
I need to find peace in my own head.
I dream in black and white.
I kiss my scars goodnight.
I try to heal them before the spring flowers make their way up through the earth.
