If Only He Was Here

In Memory

He would've laughed when I slammed my fist on the table 'cause Matt won again, when my hair got caught on the chair, when a bubble popped in Maria's face,if only he'd been there.

He would've laughed when we fall backwards off the swing, when Alice played a king, when Maria and I sang an argument on stage, when Mom and Dad ripped a page,if only he'd been there.

He would've smiled when Maria's guard got 1st place, when Matt won the Pinewood Race, when Alice preached for the first time, when I won with speaking a poem's rhyme,if only he'd been there.

Now that he's gone heavenward,I wish I'd clung on every word.I wish he'd seen all the things he missed, all our events, camping in the yard in tentsblowing bubbles at the moon. But he was gone far too soon.

He would have laughed and smiled and cried. If only he'd been there.I used to see him every week. Now, I miss him.

I wish that he could have laughed with me my sisters my brother, my father and mother, just a little while longer.
