I'll Be Your Mermaid

A Poem

"Her mind swims at a depth most would drown in"

Stuck in your net,

coarse wires and tied knots

a free feeling once forgot.

Scales cut deep;

like a tidal wave of emotion.

Float to the bottom,

an endless sleep.

Put me on display,

a magnificient specimen,

belonging to your collection.

Forever encased,

a glass prison.

Strong enough to make an incision,

into my baby skin.

No longer pure,

child, to woman, you made me.

Left collecting dust,

upon the shelf you placed me.

Left behind the case, unseen.

No longer am I of interest,

like a child's toy.

I am left to your imagination,

mythical and a mystery.

My form slowly changing,

a loss of myself; for you.

And into your life, a new.

Another creature of interest,

to entertain your childish mind.

Eyes glazed over like the glass in front,

all I can do is look.

Doubting my self worth.

I'll be your toy,

your image,

your creation; discovery,

I'll be your mermaid.
