Admittedly, these verses are not true haiku. True haiku is not meant to rhyme and good haiku elicits emotion in the reader.
The horizon glooms,
Thunder sounds from far away,
Summer shower looms.
Dark blue clouds encroach
On the bright hot summer day;
Rain is on the way.
The Start
Single raindrops fall,
While the sun still warmly glows;
Soon, the tempo grows.
Big drops, one by one,
The rain begins to patter,
Playing in the sun.
The Spill
Sudden rain descends,
Raising mist and strident sound …
Smells of dampened ground.
How the heavens pour
Tides of rain upon the scape,
With a mighty roar!
The Touch
Raindrops pelt the bloom
Deadly blows upon its head,
Giving life instead.
Pummeled by the rain,
Petals fall and flowers bend,
Soon to rise again.
The Gift
Sun and sky of blue …
For a moment comes the rain,
Leaving ev’ry hue.
Colored arc above,
Light that weaves through air and sun …
Summer rain is done.
