A Poem After the Sun

The Sad Reality

The sun shoots down and bites my skin.

Burning spreads and explodes over my entire body

Leaving it forever scarred.

Broken arms cannot give warm embraces.

Kisses don't come from bloody lips.

The explosions murder innocent hearts.

The suns of the earth are trampled

By the harsh stomps of the monsters

Created by the fire.

The fire is angry.

It turned the rich grass black

And the birds flew away.

I call to their wondrous wings

Take me back to the sun

But I'm melting to ash.

Then one bird circles back

Staring straight through the scars

And the light in her eyes is unmistakable.
