A flower
A tree
A weed
Knows what it is to do
No questions asked, no doubts or hesitation
It turns sunlight into energy, drinks water and
it just grows.
A cat
A deer
A giraffe
Knows what they are to do
No manifested fears, no worry or confusion
They eat when they're hungry, sleep when they're tired and
they just live.
A person however
A human being
A soul
possesses so many of these anxious qualities
Questions, fears, doubts, hesitations, worries, confusion and
so many more unexplainable emotions that are wished to not be felt
So much of life is spent in uncertainty
Where are we to go
What are we to do
Who are we to be
Though a great gift is an ability to critical think it is also the downfall of many
Spending life on meaningless antics instead of savoring every second that is given
Striving to please those who don't even know your name
Being angry at an individual whose life is equally as short
Worrying if a small decision isn't going to bring the maximum amount of pleasure
The emotions that we wish not to feel are the same ones that give us a sense of hope and purpose
Even if that purpose is to simply avoid the sensation
These are the very things that make us
human.
Better to be content with what makes up your soul
Feel with all your heart
Feel the doubt
The worry
The confusion
The fear
The despair
The anger
The love
or
settle for being afraid of your being.
In this way
life is simply wasted on these things that consume us daily
Better to just be a flower.

The Truth About Freshman Year of College
Like many other teenagers aspiring to better themselves with a college degree, I was in my Junior year of high school when I started to research where I would spend my years after I graduated. The process was stressful and exciting as I looked at tuition rates, locations, majors, size, and student life at different institutions. It all went by so quickly. I had decided on attending Kutztown University in Pennsylvania and before I knew it I was weeks away from move-in day. I had all kinds of mixed emotions about starting an entirely new chapter of my life. I was excited to finally be on my own getting to go to school for something that I care about, I was nostalgic leaving the life that I've known for years, but most of all I was anxious and scared out of my mind. Moving to a new place on your own is one of the bravest things a person can do, especially at 18 years old when you barely feel like an adult. But as nervous as I was, I kept telling myself that everyone goes through this and that everyone feels this way. I assumed that I would be okay when I got there, and everything would fall into place.

It Only Took One Minute.......
It only took a minute. I was sitting at the computer in my office when the phone rang. I picked up the receiver and then laid it down my desk as I went to find the student who the call was for. Within seconds I was back at my desk, ready to resume typing, when I heard the student yelling obscenities at me for listening in to his call through the handset that was still lying on the desk. Sick and tired of the lies he was spewing, I was up running down the hall, ready to kill him. By the time I reached him, I had calmed enough not to hurt him, but as I turned back towards my room, I knew that I couldn’t go on like this any longer. The decision was clear. I had to leave.
