You Were a Dog and I Was a Cat

I wish it could have worked.

Maybe it’s that

You were the dog,

And I was only

The cat.

Though you seemed

To act just

A little more

Like that.

We could love

Each other all

Day and never

Want to quit,

But in the end,

There is nothing

We could do to

Quite perfectly fit.

You had your own

Chasing of mice

And I had my

Silly old birds,

Which I thought you

Could learn to love,

But you must already

Have loved hers.

I could never be

A cat for you,

No matter how

Hard I tried.

I waited and waited

For you to see,

But you didn’t,

And I could only cry.

It wasnt your job

To love me

Or to treat me

How I wanted.

But you tricked me

Into loving you,

So by a one-sided

Hurt I am haunted.
