The Drive - Driving US 90

Excerpt from "The Seven" by Kat Olive

Driving US-90 headed to Effie’s

Thoughts of lobster gumbo

Made up girl inside my head

Feeling the sting of her loss

Even though she has not been found

She was real

She is real

She is gone

Got the strength to carry on without this girl inside my head

To have not lost track

To still be in my life

A true brunette

Liquid velvet blue eyes

Pear, peaches, snail

Girl is gone, not real

Up and down the skin of ink

Spreading morphs of dragons, owls, and centipedes

Porcelain white behind a spread of tender and warm flesh

Shining brightly with the softest hint of lip

Covered in her own nudity and dressed for unforeseen fates

Bits of skin not covered with the protection of prophecy

Cream, smooth, and freckled

Her sharp mind speaking freely

Mingling and tangled with vigorous energy

She was real
