Written in the Stars

A Poem

I lie awake at night

Staring at the sky

Through my open window

And I think to myself

“Why it is that

the sight of stars

Always make me dream”?

Dreams of you

They fill my mind

And consume me completely

Much like the infinite sparkles

Illuminating the night time sky

With their lustrous glow

When the dreams of you begin to fade

And I’m beckoned back to reality

I count the stars

Hoping that they will ease me back

Into my transcendental reverie

1.. 2.. 3..

The longer I lie here

The more I think

That each star is the life of a soul

And the clusters must be reserved

For the souls that have lived many

I contemplate a little deeper

And I wonder if

It is love that is a souls reason for living

If that’s the case

Then I am sure that our story

Is one that is written in the stars

It is a hundred lifetimes of our love

That have made up the constellations

Like the love found in Lyra

Where Orpheus composes his music

And plays a hallowed tune

One that tells the tale

Of the star crossed lovers

Vega and her mortal paramour, Altair

Like The duo

The universe plagues us with obstacles

Trying to keep us away from one another

But our love is stronger and more resilient

Not even the Celestial River that is the Milky Way can keep us apart

We know that our fate is set stars

We don’t wait for sky gods to build us magpie bridges

We pray upon the lights of the sky to fulfill our wishes

We are relieved when they do

A huge weight is lifted knowing that

Every step taken

Is another step closer to you

As the stars fall bringing life anew

I know that my next life

Will bring me back to you

Because a hundred lifetimes spent with you wouldn’t be enough

My heart is yours for an eternity

When this body is old and gray

I’ll move from this life to the next

And I promise you by the light of the stars

I will mark our love in the sky

To forever remind the universe

Of my everlasting love

For you
