Words to My Mother

Life is short and sometimes we let the little things play a bigger role than they should.

My mother once told me to say thank you and please

To avoid the green eyes monster who gave me jealousy

She told me to brush my teeth and comb my hair

That life wasn't always going to be fair

She told me to do my homework at night

But as we got older we started to fight

I didn't want to listen to what she told me

I didn't want her trying to control me

I moved out of the house and into one of my own

Weeks would go by before we would talk on the phone

But then one day she was gone

All I wanted was one more moment with her

Just one

Now I make sure to say thank you and please

And to avoid the green eyes monster that gives me jealousy

I comb my hair and brush my teeth

And pray to God at the end of every week

My mother always told me she would love me til the end

So now I tell my mother I am sorry

And I take back everything that I said.
