Spirits of Mischief

Wind, Rain, and Fire

These three can be gentle, benevolent, playful, and fun; but play can turn to mischief, mischief can become uninhibited … oh, and you never, ever want to make them mad.

O, I dread the wind that shakes the wall,

For who knows what’s about to fall;

And who knows what will be revealed,

When it uncovers what’s concealed?

It presses like a warning drum,

Of bigger blusters sure to come.

O, heed the noisome, relentless rain

That swirls and gathers at the drain;

And, as it stirs the earth’s disguise,

Beware the things that might arise.

No more the deluge it was said;

It’s just a sign of what’s ahead.

And a fire lays waste the distant wood,

And nothing there will it exclude;

Horizons hide and then return,

But skylines perish in the burn.

The cloud of ash defiles the sky,

And more than clouds corrodes the eye.
