Wild Ones

Ballad of the Free

They left us to ourselves and on our own we thrived, racing through the streets and howling freedom at the skies.

They sent us on our own thinking we'd want to be reigned. That we could be conquered if we first tasted pain.

From the disorder and the chaos we began to grow, surviving together with a magic untold.

You'd think they'd have realized that by setting us free, they'd be giving us room to spread out our wings.

We became something which couldn't be caged. Racing and laughing with others our age.

We took over the streets and lived off the rush, of facing the danger and refusing to hush.

We tore through the ropes and broke off the chains, refusing to sit when we could dance in the rain.

They thought they could claim us and put up a fight. We gave them the day but we took the night.

We ran in the light of the moon high above, our souls filled with starlight and a strange savage love.

We gave in to the demands of the heart in the end, eagerly inviting the wild life in.

We can't be controlled and we can't be contained. Ours is a power that demands to be claimed.

We refuse to bow and we will not return. The wild is ours and loyalty is earned.

They tried to rule us but they learned something else:

You simply can't govern what governs itself.
