A friend of mine asked me, "why do you run?"

I told him "I run for my mom, my sisters, my friends, my family. I run for my life. I run because I want to live. I run because I'm afraid. I run because I know people need me. I run because I don't wanna hurt the people I love. Because losing me would make them lose themselves. I run for my life."

He says to me "but you didn't do anything wrong."

I told him "In his eyes I did. I was born colored, which struck fear in his heart. He suspected I was guilty before he knew I was innocent. That's his job, but the fact that I'm black made it different. regardless of whether or not I run, There's a possibility I'll end up with a bullet hole in my body. So what can I do except run? I run to survive. I run because I have no choice. I run because this world won't change. I run because I'm me. I run because I'm black. I run because I have to.

So why do I run?

I run for my life.
