Who Are You?

For a long time I lost who I was because I lost you.

You left me like a shadow in the night. No trace, no sound.

Said I'd always be there and I meant it. But did you mean it when you said you would love me forever?

Let it go, let you go. Please tell me if a better option unfolds. I wonder why, why you left so suddenly.

Who do you blame when both parties are seemingly faultless? You've had this need to find yourself and over time, that's one thing I've had to learn.

There was a time when I knew you like I knew myself. However in the end you became unpredictable. I found that I really didn't know you at all.

And how do you rescue someone from themselves when you barely recognize them? These questions I ask in vain; I may never truly find answers.

All I can do is remember who you were to me and maybe something that simple will be enough.
