When the One You Love Goes Away
Just another ordinary day. . .
When the one you love goes away. . .
A familiar start to a typical day.
Peculiar in hindsight,
how unevenly minds perceive
What is right.
A flighty heart leaves.
Caves to the escape –
Taken by surprise,
The other unaware, left behind –
Bereft, surmised to find cause
In her own shortcomings,
as her love goes astray.
Staring into the glaring
eternal abyss of loss.
Yearning for internal bliss.
The cost of distraction from self
When the attraction from others’ help
Detracts from satisfaction that can be
Only summoned from strength found within.
Hope abounds as we begin learning –
That loneliness is just temporarily relieved by lust.
Don’t feign love to a companion sooner abandoned –
Than to remain attached when she needed reprieve.
Trust her bleeding heart to give herself freely,
Because she wants to believe.
And be gentle, even as you fade.
She will grieve the idea of you
even as she came to love the reality.
Don’t take her love lightly.
Even as a friend, you first found
her shattered heart on the mend.
To her, you mattered.
Don’t fade into self-serving silence forever
She deserves a fair farewell.
Only time will tell. . .
When the one you love retreats,
What can you do, but accept defeat?
