What We Are Born Into

A Poem

My current location is no more real, or ‘ality’ than reality

My current location is no more mine or a location at all.

For the time being my current location will serve as my seat at the table

However, my current location is no more a seat or even an ‘a’

The way I see it, this moment, this state of existing

Is neither momentous or existential

The opportunities I am receiving to me

Make not of me an opportunist nor a recipient

Not a single word known to man

Can paint me as a single or even a man

The unconscious ideas of relative being

Are ones that adopt us from birth

The he, she, they, me, hers, his, theirs, mine

The hegemonic pronouns of different states of living

The unspoken societal laws that make a working man a him with a job,

Or a mother a she with an it.

This is what we are born into.

When we are born we become a he, she, they with an, a, an, this, that, these or those
