What's It to a Name?

A Poem

So why should I be named?

To be called and recognized by a word that will never mean something to me?

Why do others have to name me?

What's this excitement about finding names for children that might never love their own name?

What's it to a name? An identification? An Understanding? A recognition of one's own gender?

A parallel of one’s simple or dangerous life?

Once, someone said my name was too boring. But what does that even mean?

Does it mean people will have a hard time liking me because of a stupid name?

That I will be stuck forever with one piece of information important for a first meeting?

“What's your name?” They ask. Why? To memorize it? To remember a boring person with it?

To remember the name for next time and compare with the next person with the same name?

To see the difference between one possible me and another?

What’s it to a name?

A way to be remembered by?

To make people cry or laugh or both about it?

To remember someone and feel nostalgic calling it?

Why don't we all have a different name?

Why will we meet people with the same name and still feel no connection with them?

Do we have the same names to feel a connection? To not feel alone?

Has anyone ever been close with someone with the same name as them?

So what is it to a name? The source of identification and remembrance?

A weird composition of letters that sort out the sound you will be recognized and known by forever?

What is it to a name?
