"What is Love?"

A Prose Poem

Dedicated to my beautiful younger sister who has been in love more times than me. 😊

"Love is pain." She said.

"It's crying at night because you've found out that the person you love chose infedelity over you. It's feeling a broken heart everyday for weeks after a break up. It's feeling pieces of your heart chip off at the mention of their name. Love is not being able to sleep at night because you miss their arms around you, keeping you warm. Love is pain."

"Love is happiness. It's waking up in the morning, happy because you know you're going to be spending the day with your love. It's smiling to yourself at work because you can't stop thinking about them. It's being with your best friend and soulmate all at the same time. It's snuggling under a blanket, laying on their chest and listening to their heartbeat match yours. Love is happiness."

"Love is fear. It's waking up in the middle of the night to an empty bed, and you're left wondering where they are. It's worrying about whether or not they'll make it home safely. It's waiting at the hospital to make sure everything went well. It's constant running from something or someone that loves you, but you're too afraid to love them back because you're afraid of getting hurt. Love is fear."

"Love is bliss. It's waking up in the morning after a great night with an everlasting smile. It's waiting for their soft lips to meet yours so that you can escape to that world that you always do, the one with just you and them. Love is bliss."

Love is comfort. It's smelling their scent and instantly feeling safe. It's feeling their arms wrap around you and feeling at home. It's closing your eyes and just the thought of them relaxes your mind. Love is comfort."

"Love is old age. It's staying by their side forever. It's loving through the years. It's never leaving them, even when times get rough. It's growing old with them and dancing with them, even though your knees tell you to sit down. Love is old age.

"And most importantly, love is trust. It's trusting them not to hurt you like everyone else has. It's trusting them not to lie or cheat. It's trusting them enough to know that they're not out talking to other people. But worst of all, it's giving someone the power to break you're heart, shatter it, even, yet, you're trusting them enough not to."
