'What Does It Feel Like?'

To Suffer From Mental Health Issues...

May is mental health awareness month. Don’t be afraid to share your story.

I was once asked what it feels like to suffer from the mental illnesses I have

Actually, it was an online application for the opportunity to share my story

So, after typing out my story and answering the prompts

I scrolled down to the last question which was “What does it feel like?”

I assume this is where most would try to inspire others with their recovery experience

But not me

My answer came quite quickly and almost poetically

I typed out on my laptop

“It feels like I've put on size 6 high-heeled shoes

And I'm just walking around like everything is fine

And like nothing hurts

But the reality of it is,

I'm actually a size 8 in shoes

And I've never been able to walk properly in heels.”

How’s that for an answer?
