What a World

Time and perspective...reveals the truth

They say it was the darkest night

The fires burned so high

They claimed evil and hate

But it was a lie.

The fog between us left the stains

Floating on the wind

Early spring morning came without warning

Wings carried you aloft to hide you away

Bearing down on the tables of fate

But what a world had you stayed

Pop another bottle of crystal

and pray

To make it through the day we all forgot

Father….forgive me please forgive

Forget….father please let me go

I saw shadows dance the glistened steps shine

I heard people but the rustle hasn't stopped yet

The screams silenced but the children still cry

The river has frozen but the roads unchosen

Ferry you to the city a little less pretty

Lights aglow to light your way

But what a life had you stayed

Millions of glances no second chances

To make it through the night burning so bright

Mother... take my hand and walk

Don't stop...and try to talk

Who could’ve seen...the marks you left

But what a world if you’d stayed

The half and half as a dividing line

But what's the point if it was all a lie

Those eyes still glisten and soon will listen broken down in time

The songs they'll sing and slowly bring

The lie's end of the line

The changing phase of the sun

Matters more than the moon

The night mistress of June

Reunited with the father and the son

Judged as good or evil

Or just the passage of time

But what a world it could've been
