Welcome Aboard
Poem Written While I Was a Flight Attendant
Welcome Aboard.
Beaming like the rays protruding through all sixty four of my office’s windows as you shuffle down to aisle 32.
Who would have known my boss would be the man who wears gold wings atop his heart paired alongside head winds at 35,000 feet? Not I.
The requirements of my obligations exceed much more than pouring ginger ale into tiny plastic cups so please dislodge your ear buds and place your personal belongings underneath the seat in front of you.
I am a passenger too.
The giant tube you wish had more leg room is my home away from home, the place where my colleagues and I spend a lot of our time. So, even if I am on my feet for the duration of your journey, please trust me when I tell you that I understand how you feel just like you subconsciously trust me to safely board you onto a life raft in the unlikely event of an emergency landing over the pacific.
I am a passenger too.
I do not judge your fear of flying nor your eagerness to deplane and I understand that turbulence is irritating. Your luggage is important and so is being seated next to your loved ones.
I am a passenger too.
Beaming like the rays protruding through all sixty four of my office’s windows as you shuffle down to aisle 32.
Who would have known my boss would be the man who wears gold wings atop his heart paired alongside head winds at 35,000 feet? Not I.
Welcome Aboard.
