We Are Artists

We are artists,

Yet we tend to forget that.

We turn off the lights,

So that we can't see.

We stay in the shade,

So that we have no shadow.

We always try to stay

In our little cage of normalcy,

That we claim "is perfect as is"

And "too hard to escape from."

But walls can crumble

And bars can break.

Our spirits cannot be contained.

We need freedom.

We need to float away from expectations

And love who we are.

If our minds can wander where they want to,

Why can't we let ourselves do the same?

Why live within walls

Yet be looking out windows your whole life?

Shatter the glass and create your own story

With its own plot and characters,

That you chose.

Every choice you make

Is another chapter in your story.

Every thought you have

Is another color added to your canvas

Everything you see

Is another picture of your life.

Why not create a masterpiece?

Write new chapters,

Create new colors,

Take more pictures.

Be messy.

Be beautiful.

This is your life.

Live it as you'd like,

Not how others choose for you.
