Waves and Storms

Part One

It comes in waves, they said.

I never understood what they meant, till it came in waves and storms.

One moment you're going to be okay. More than okay, you're going to be strong.

You're going to be independent and move on along, with or without it or them.

If they're coming along, that's great, and if they're not, you're still going on.

You're going to get out of bed in the morning, you're going to look at yourself

in the mirror as you wash your face, and you're going to nod to yourself.

You're going to have a good day, come hell or high water. You're going to have a good one.

With or without them. If they come along, that's great, and if they're not, you're still going on.

You're in front of your wardrobe now and you're going to look good today, not just presentable.

You're in front of your mirror now, and you're putting makeup on your face.

You're going to look pretty today, not just okay. If you see them, that's great, and if you don't,

you're still going on.

You're in the car now, your window is down and you're going to avoid the music that burns your heart at the seams.

You're going to listen to neutral and happy music, meaningless music, hyped up beats.

You're looking out your window now, you're wondering where they are.

Here come the waves and the storms, and the aching that's rising like the tide in your chest.

You're stomach is turning now, do you miss me too? Are you wondering about me too?

If you are, then that's more than great, and if you aren't, you're not still going on, are you?

You're not still going on. You're in the car now, and you're wondering how the world is moving on.

How are we going to do this today? And every day after then.

When the world keeps moving on and you're stuck in a moment that could not have possibly been meant to be just one moment.

The world keeps moving on, wave after waves, storms and all.

If you're coming along, that's great, and if you aren't, it's still going on anyway.
