Wave Away

A Personification Poem

The sun rises to waves

whispering swish. Depths days wide

crest to peaks on the surface.

Dissolved salt encapsulates

one sunken chest. The sea

only shares with one other.

Water washes over sand, bearing

down what was rock. Sand begrudges

breaking a solid foundation. Guests

dig their toes into the tide, they detour.

No tourist knows the harshness

that excites such change.

Sand suffers crushing but sits complacent;

water suggests to dance without abandon.

Sand simply didn't foresee

all the rock salt and long hauls;

and thinks, I'm sure

it seems so easy.

In passing everyone enjoys

the pair. They present for the people

and persevere. Onlookers liken them to

a sunset, a smile, and sashay into sails

that can take them away.
