Subconsiously Longing to Feel Loved

I listen to your breathing

As your mind tip-toes into a slumber

Shallow enough for me to pull you out

Deep enough to slow each breath you reach for

I watch your eyes falling

As you cautiously step into a world of darkness

Convinced by your mind to stay

Until your flickering thoughts blow out

I feel your heart beating

As you lay in another world but right next to me

Synchronized rhythms tie us together

Forcing me to meet your quiet pace

Two different states of mind

Serenely drifting towards each other

Subconsciously longing to feel loved

Even while sleeping

Detached from their surroundings

Both sets of lungs now hold hands

Simultaneously singing the same chorus

With eyes and lips closed
