Valentine's Day

A Poem

Valentine's Day.

There are love songs on the radio...

Endless amorous adverts on the TV.

50 Shades of Grey posters all around.

They all mean nothing to me.

And so Valentine's Day is once again here.

There are flowers & cards being brought everywhere.

Lovers old & new seem to choose now to come alive.

Some will last the test of time, some will fade, some will die.

Of the Promises made today, most tomorrow will be broken...

As unintentional hypocrites make their plans.

Maybe I should not be so cold & so cynical...

In truth, I just find it all so hard to understand.

Its not that I am not romantic...

For inside I hold a fairytale romance.

I simply believe that when you are in love.

You show it with your words & actions whenever you get the chance.

For love needs not a day to be expressed this way.

But to grow from a seed & blossom as it constantly remains.

A beautiful measure that no treasure should compare.

If you are blessed enough to experience a love that is shared.

I say make everyday your Valentines.

Don't wait for it once a year.

Hold onto the inner beauty...

When the superficial disappears.

Keep that flame alive.

Amid all seasons of change.

Do not take each other for granted

For so easily you become estranged.

For those that go the distance...

Part of me is envious & in awe.

To find true love while on this journey...

And want for nothing more.

For those like me who choose to be on their own

Who choose the wine & candles yet to remain alone.

I send out this message of understanding to connect with you.

Who knows maybe one day...

Valentine's Day will mean something to us too?
