Under the Stars

You, the Moon and All the Stars

I didn’t know what to expect when you asked to meet me. I was nervous and excited, as anyone would be. But, I do know, throughout life we have a million chances to make one thing right and in life, we have one chance to make a million things possible. My only regret was not taking a chance on you sooner.

As you began to lay the blankets across the dewy grass, with no other light but the moon, I began to compare you to the night sky. I always wondered what it would be like to know someone like you. I have been chasing sunsets in hopes of meeting you at the horizon. Now, for a moment, I couldn’t tell the difference between the stars and the twinkle in your eyes.

This was the kind of relationship that started unexpectedly. I’ve heard people say those are the best kind and they may be right. I told him how I was tired. Tired of caring for people who didn’t care for me. He told me, “sometimes the girl who cares for everyone else, needs someone to care for her... let me be that person for you.” While my heart was screaming yes, I was saying no.

We looked up and I wondered, “who could get tired of the moon?” Nobody does. It is cratered with imperfections, alone in a sea of stars. When I looked over to you, I noticed, you were the moon on this Earth and I would never grow tired of you. We sat together without a moment of silence, writing our story in the stars who listened and throwing dreams to the sky who answered.
