Two Wolves in the Darkness

Simple Poetry Written from the Heart of Someone with a Story

Two wolves sit still on a mountainside,

In front of a moon in a starlit sky.

One snowy white,

The other night black

Echo each other's company

With the world behind their back.

A coat as thick as the air he breathes,

A stare so deep,

through his teeth he seethes.

Eyes alert,

Ears pricked up,

Deep in thought as he watches the one in front.

Unsure of his move,

Filled with aches of the past.

The thumping of his heart

beating seconds so fast.

A feeling of uncertainty

He's learned to live with,

A shadow so cold,

Where the doubt still lingers.

As he stares at the white

He's beating all fear,

All the voices inside telling him

He dare not go near.

A beautiful glare

Looking at the soul,

An act of true danger

Peering through the keyhole.

He stands on the mountain

Without a noise,

He's watching and waiting

With composure and poise.

A calmness sweeps over

The white wolf again,

She's reminded of the reason for peace.

The softness in her eyes

Keep the moment relaxed

As the creatures oppose at ease.

Motionless she stays,

Patience on her tongue,

Waiting for something to happen.

Her mind is at rest,

But her thoughts go on

And pull at the parts left untouched.

Her expressions are forced

Truth is locked up,

But still she remains with her presence.

A burning flame

A desire unfolds

Still she seems the same.

Their silhouettes encased

In a cloud of thought,

The fog of the air undisturbed.

Paws on the path,

Light folding in

On the world as they both see it.

One icy heart,

One numbed to the touch,

As they sit with their wounds alike.

So distant, yet close,

So simply placed

In a darkness that shines ever bright.
