Too Beautiful
I remember when I had skin...
I remember when I had skin. I used to pride myself on my shell's beauty. I was always adorned with the best gems this earth has ever created, cinched in the finest materials, and the object of beauty that brought designers visions to life. I was flawless.
I remember when he snatched the gems from my neck. He pushed my freshly bruised neck into the bricks and brought stars to my eyes.
I remember waking to dust and darkness, his breathing heavy against my pores. My mouth was full of sour rags and my lips were constricted behind cloth. The glint was swift before the pain. My vision was watercolor as I watched him cut, peel, and eat my perfectly ripe skin.
I don’t remember when the pain became too much, or when death swallowed me. I woke up skinless, faceless, and see-through.
