To Love This Mere Girl
A Poem for Those Bound by Water

I swear she had these dancing eyes
that preyed upon me
every waking moment.
Forever moving
yet trapped
in a cranial prison.
She lived in a house made of sand
it would vanish in the tide
and reappear at daybreak.
Once she told me
it was dangerous to go alone.
I stepped further into the water
escaping her quivering gaze.
The waves washed over me
my feet succumbed to the sands.
The sinking feeling
the same as hands clasping onto air
a mouth without a tongue to speak.
I awaken
and she tells me again
that my dreams
are just clouds
evaporating into her sea.
