To her,
He's more than a person,
He's her best friend;
A personal shoulder to cry on,
A soft place to land when things get tough.
He pieces the world together,
Every time she feels it crumbling beneath her own feet.
He places a smile on her face,
Every time life has a found a way to knock it off.
He provides a safe haven,
Whenever her spirit is under attack.
He catches her as she starts falling,
Whenever she begins losing balance.
He gives her support,
As hope slips away in the worst of circumstances.
He's her saving grace
In the middle of every prayer.
He makes her feel whole
During every moment they share.
He's a mystery
That has yet to be solved.
He acts silly
Just to hear her laugh.
He kisses her forehead
Leaving nothing but a smile on her tender face.
He's the company she always craves for
No matter where they may be.
He's a needed realization
When her mind becomes cloudy.
He's like a ghost,
In and out of her life he goes.
He remains lost,
While she remains waiting.

Scary holiday house shenanigans
The year was 2016, I believe, and it was September. My family - my parents, our family dog, and I - went to France for a vacation. My mother had booked a holiday home near the French city of Obernai that looked nice in the photos. When we arrived, the landlady greeted us, though communication was difficult since she spoke little English or French while my parents and I, just 12 years old at the time, knew even less. I remember how she seemed nervous explaining that we must activate the alarm system each night and lock the doors to the lounge/winter garden with a large metal shutter that reminded me of blast doors.

How the Harvest Mouse Came to Suisun Bay
A long, long time ago there was a family of harvest mice. Mice are common, but these were unique – born to those who had lived in the salty, marshy bay for many generations, these mice ate and drank from the sea as well as the land and rivers. For generations, there were only the southern families, scattered along the marshes of Corte Madera and in the San Francisco Bay (U.S. Fish & Wildlife, 2013). One family, however, would undergo strife and conflict before reaching a whole new world. What became of them after is another tale entirely – but this is how their story begins.
