I know majority of my poems may seem sad, but somehow my life just came down to that wrapped in darkness,
no peak hole,
just heartless.
I kicked & screamed but no one ever heard me. I stitched up my own wounds & healed.
I had to face reality,
there was NO ONE there helping me face this tragedy. My heart, mind & soul ached,
but instead of going insane,
I forced myself to cope with the pain.
These eyes have witnessed it all,
how a person can be so broken,
but came out whole, beautiful, and strong.
I’ll be honest,
lately I haven’t been me,
but give me some time,
I’m just elevating to a better me.
The me you see is only temporary.

Reaching Out
I promise her. I'd do anything for her. She's my mom. Even as Lanie and Deanna are flying home, Mom is scrappy fighting dying. She lays too still in that too-big bed with all the toasty white hospital blankets, in the south tower, at the broad end of a long slow-turning corner that delivers me again to her private room with the view she can't see through, with the beeping that tells us nothing new, and all these ice chips she can't swallow, and a flood of well-intentioned nurses who cannot do a damned thing all the same.
