To Autumn

Soft scents of jasmine float through autumn air,

crickets fill the night with endless chatter;

settles and shrouds the dark with a perfect pair.

Sliding under velvet sheets to prepare

eyes hang heavy ignoring the clatter

soft scents of jasmine float through autumn air.

Moon shows her face, steady without a care.

My arms bear small bumps; rain drums its pitter-patter,

settles and shrouds the dark with a perfect pair.

Apples fill the countertops; none are bare.

The spring green color of leaves fall flatter,

soft scents of jasmine float through autumn air.

Bounties of food brought by neighbors to share,

our stomachs filling up become fatter

Settles and shrouds the dark with a perfect pair.

Gathered in serenity, feelings rare

a glass house so perfect hoping it won’t shatter.

Soft scents of jasmine float through autumn air,

settles and shrouds the dark with a perfect pair.
