Time Has No Concept

For C

A ticket from the day of our first date and the first night I spent with you.

Who knew eyes could be hypnotic

And a smile could be infectious

I find myself staring

I used to look into people’s eyes and imagine all the ways they could hurt me

All the ways they would hurt me.

With you though it’s different

I stare into your ocean eyes

Forgetting I get seasick, continuing to stare

As my stomach twists and turns

Normally I’d feel doomed

Instead I see a light so bright it blinds me

To the point I scrunch my face up and smile

I’ve smiled more in the past few weeks than I have in years

You make me feel alive and at peace all at the same time

I was numb until I met you.

I was never one who believed in timing or fate until we met

Everything made sense for the first time

The jigsaw pieces started to fit

It was a cold, crispy night in October

When I saw you, I froze

At first I assumed it was the temperature

Until I felt my heart beating, racing even

I could feel my body heating up

My cheeks burning

I was stuck in time, staring

And since then I haven’t stopped

Minutes, hours, days go by and I could still be entranced by you

With you there is no concept of time.
