Tides

April 2019

Ebb

Pulling away

Everything dragged out

Lost

Flow

Things rush in

New things, old things

Wonder & dream

Thrill & excitement

Ebb again

The dreams fade

The wonder recedes

Hope is caught & pulled out to sea

Hanging on, trying to keep hope alive

The pull is strong

It slips from my grip and vanishes screaming in the waves.

The tide is out.

Gone.

I glimpse hope in the distance as the tide flows back in

Is it alive, or just the lifeless shell?

Every time before it has returned a corpse

Shall I stay or turn my back for once?

Wrong question.

It isn't a choice.

The watch must be kept.

I gaze at the returning waves,

Waiting to see what they've brought me.
