Through the Mists of Life

A Poem

The glittering blue waters, once reflected in my eye

And the light within the pupils, were like stars within the sky

Everything they looked upon, a mystery to unfold

And even in the simple things, there were wonders to behold

Days rolled into weeks, and weeks spilled into years

The gateway to my soul, is now obstructed by my tears

The innocent girl was gone now, stolen from her youth

When her mind convinced her otherwise, the mirror told the truth

Perhaps it took my own pain, to see the hurt in others

Hours upon hours, of being broken beneath the covers

But now I see the realm, that lies within the eyes

And all the pain and suffering, a mere smile can’t disguise

It’s not so hard to brush it off, and follow some pre planned script

People don’t question words, forced through trembling lips

But the eyes they have a story, and try with all your might

But the chapters that are imprinted, there are ones you can’t rewrite

Now I’m cold and barren, left scarred by thoughts that stay

Memories of the past, that refuse to go away

But occasionally I’ll catch a glimpse, of that pure and carefree me

Occasionally I can see the stars, and reflection of the sea
