This Is Where She Stood

You walked right past her...

She stood there in the wind...blowing away. No one saw her pieces flowing around them, no one noticed the hold she had on them.

Her spirit wove around their minds, providing a dance for them to walk to, to cry to.

You could hear her laughter in the halls, her song in the choir room, but somehow you were all deaf to her screams in the bathrooms, her crying in the stair wells.

Empty as she was she always found something to give to others, scraping at her flesh, bones, and soul to ensure another’s well being.

Then…

Her song was no longer heard, her laughs were only a foggy memory, but her cries rang loudly banging against the walls, her screams ricocheted into the ears of those who hadn’t listened, deafening them with her absence.

Her spirit suddenly lifted, removing the veil of ignorance and showing them the light she saw…

The light of the inevitable end

Oh how they cried when they found out, their shouts went up into the night and their tears seemed to make a river carrying her soul to a higher plane.

Suddenly, the gifts of life that she had given turned to curses of memory that would never leave them.

The bones she gave away began to destroy them from the inside turning them into pitying mourners wishing for something that shouldn’t have left.

If only…

If only they would have danced with her, if only they would have taken a seat to listen instead of taking her heart.

If only they would have given to her instead of just sitting with their mouths open like parasites sucking the life out of her.

If only they would have sang with her rather than talk above it,

Then maybe...just maybe she would still be singing, she would still be laughing, she would still be breathing.
