This Is America

A Poem

This is America

where the color of your skin can be a crime

this is America where unarmed black men bodies fall like dominoes

Here in the land of the free, only if you have the right skin-tone

This is America

Home of the free, land of the brave

home of the enslaved and land of the innocent graves

Slavery is still alive, it’s called prison

This is America

Where the gun laws are a joke

But isn’t funny, another school shooting another parent left buried their child

It’s more of a trend to be “woke”,

taking a knee during the national anthem

is a symbol of standing for black lives matter

This is America

Another black life taken, another child falling victim to not having a father

Another mother to play both roles

A child being swallowed by the system that’s designed to keep blacks inline with drugs, prisons, and ghettos

This is America

Another body laying lifeless in the streets on tonight’s news, people watching for from the comfort of their television screen,

but that body laying dead in the streets will never make it home

Did anybody hear that black boy scream ?

That boy, that son, that brother, that father is now gone

This is America

The KKK white hoodies been dried blue

no longer burning crosses, now they walk with badges

Crackers no longer have whips

that cracks against the black skin

No longer leave open wounds across the back, now they have guns and aim for the chest

Bullets that rips through the flash and bone like paper

Bullets that steals the soul from the body without warning or hesitation

This is America...where it’s a crime to be black
