The World vs. Me

(Lover Series)

I don't think you realize,

that when I look at you,

I see all the beautiful things,

the rest of the world chooses to ignore.

Maybe,

if I could put all these wonderfully magnificent things,

into pretty words,

that make a pretty pattern,

the entire world

would see you,

the way I do.

Except, I refuse

to compare you to a rose garden,

or fancy Hawaiian sunset,

because you are not just something pretty to look at.

And I refuse to let the world view you,

as just another shiny object.

You are such a beautiful soul,

that means so much to me.

You are the blood that courses

through my veins,

keeping my heart pumping,

you make me feel alive again.

And the truth is,

I would rip every goddamned flower out of the earth,

until there is nothing but barren rock,

and willingly jump from the highest mountain,

bruising every inch of my body,

if it meant you would love me,

the way I love you.

You see,

you are such a beautiful being,

and I am such a selfish thing,

I want you all to myself,

I’m drowning in self pity,

all because I see

the beautiful things,

the world and you,

fail to see.
