The Wonder of a Woman

The Lasting Impression

Everything changes or dies, they say,

And some things are never returned;

So, that which is given

Can be taken away,

But never the lesson learned.

~

Much like a pebble, I’ve stumbled around,

Caroming indifferently;

One day, I become part

Of the river and sound

And dissipate in the sea.

~

Oh, there are so many wonders,

And so many that I cannot see;

I could live forever

In an instant of wonder,

If believing would make it be.

~

I found your number in a book of lore,

Where nothing else enhanced the page;

And we basked in the passion

That we’d known before,

When passion was all the rage.

~

Sometimes, exhausted, we lay in the field

And traced the patterns in the sky;

You stopped and turned and smiled,

And something was revealed,

As we felt the clouds drift by.

~

And there are so many wonders,

Like the tender moments in the night;

And a wonder, sometimes,

Leaves a lasting impression,

As it shimmers out of sight.
