The Wash of Ease

A Poem

In no such state was I

to feign

a sense of purpose or

to display false confidence.

I had not bathed in months

and my mind was scrambled

from miles of skipping and

dancing on command for an

audience I had invented.

The mere concept of cleanliness

was detestable

and we opted instead to trudge through

the complexities that we created for each other

I stole your shoes.

You locked the door behind you.

I drank the last drop of wine

and stumbled around a destitute waste

that I came to discover was

my own sickly subconscious.

To slide gently into a world void of drought

and submerge herself in simplicity–

Innocence–

She never was a child

And never will be again.
