The Wall

My protection

So, there's this wall...

Masterfully crafted

Tall as the highest skyscraper

Smooth as newborn skin

Rooted into the earth deeper than the eldest trees

Dense. Impenetrable.

There is no climbing this wall

This wall imprisons, yet secures me

I am trapped. I am safe. What's the difference anymore?

Day after day, I stand behind the wall and listen

Boy after boy, man after man

They all come and they all try

But no matter how much they chip away at the wall

A new outer layer forms by morning

Eager. Impatient.

I yearn to be seen, heard, felt

But the wall will not allow it

Until one morning I awoke to see a tiny hole, straight through the wall

He had not repaired it in the night

A big bright eye peeked at me from the other side

"Soon" whispers the wall

I smile and lie back into the grass to wait

Peacefully. Patiently.

So there's this boy...
