The Truth of the Matter

This poem is about lust and failing relationships.

It’s time to get down to the truth of the matter.

I don’t want to talk about my broken heart,

And all the scars I have,

Emotional and physically.

I put my cigarette out on his arm and for that, he will remember me.

In exchange for a burn on my left breast.

There is always some sort of trade-off.

I forget how that cut got on my leg.

I was drunk and ‘slipped’ I guess.

But I’m always slipping.

But I’m always falling in and out of other people’s lives.

I took a bath.

Gardenia bubble bath and a few open wounds.

They may burn but they need to be cleansed.

They need to heal, as do I.

Washing away my sin’s.

Using antibacterial soap to cleanse myself.

And lust is the biggest one of them all.

Lust me all you want,

I make mistakes about who I let touch me.

Who I let get close.

I wish I was under glass.

I wish I had that protective barrier.

Even if I am a drowning mermaid.

It’s time to get down to the truth of the matter.

It’s time to burn my ego.

And breathe in the smoke of my holocaust.

It’s time to bury my lovers like children.

What is the word for a parent who loses a child?

There isn’t one.

I guess it’s just too damn awful to even have a name.

This body must be seen to be appreciated.

But if that’s all I have,

Then what’s it worth to you?

My mind means nothing.

My wit.

My sarcastic ideas.

My personality.

Forgotten in the world wind of bad decisions.

Lust, a deadly sin.

And it’s my trading card.

Collect all seven and go to hell peacefully.

It’s time to get down to the truth of the matter.

I love and feel too much for those around me.

Cursed under the sign of Pisces,

Emotions like a river.

And I’m drowning in my own thoughts.

In this bathtub of stagnant water and fresh blood.

If I could fix you I would.

If I could glue your heart back together,

And take back anything negative I said I would.

I am only human and make mistakes.
