The Truth Hurts... but It's a Good Kind of Pain

A Poem

Like a bee sting,

Or the lashing of a whip,

So is the truth to those who seek it.

Did you think it would be easy to hear the truth

In all its sweet brutality?

It’s like the pain you feel after a hard workout.

It’s like lightning striking the ground

Five feet away from you!

It’s no secret…

The truth hurts. A lot.

And it’s frightening!

However, you know after hearing the truth,

You want nothing else.

Lies do not appeal to you after hearing from reality.

Why would they?

Once you know what’s real and honest,

There’s no point in giving lies a chance.

The truth hurts, but it’s a good kind of pain…

Lies feel like an upset stomach.

As though you’ve eaten too much junk food,

And made yourself sick.

Yeah, sure, lies are sweet at first,

But once you find them out

They quickly turn bitter.

You end up in more pain than the truth could ever inflict upon you.

The truth hurts, but it’s a good kind of pain…

The pain itself is brief

When it’s from the truth.
