The Things I Wish I Could Keep

January 25th, 2014

It has been some time.

You may have a date.

You might have forgotten.

One year ago I wrote to you,

but since then everything has changed.

Both our lives have been rearranged.

However, one thing still remains.

These things I told you I loved,

I love them even more now.

Now those things are far away,

beyond my reach.

So I will tell you about,

all the things I wish I could keep:

Your company, for I have lost my best friend.

Your face and your beautiful eyes,

because time weakens the memory of them.

Your heart, because only God can see the good in it more than me.

Your arms, to keep wrapped around me to help me sleep.

Your tears, because I can’t stand to see you in pain.

Your smell, because it means you are close by.

Your love.

Because let’s be truthful.

Maybe we are completely different.

Maybe we are completely wrong,

but you complete me.

I stand and hope one day,

You will find a way to give me these things I wish to keep.
